Designing with Spotted Quoll
Designing for The Spotted Quoll: A Creative Collaboration Rooted in Tasmania
There’s something incredibly special about creating artwork that not only reflects a place you love, but also becomes part of a brand that celebrates it too. Working with The Spotted Quoll has been one of those moments for me—where art, storytelling, and Tasmania’s wild beauty all come together.
A Brand That Celebrates Tasmania
The Spotted Quoll is a well-known Tasmanian brand that captures the spirit of this island through thoughtful design and high-quality products. Like my own work with Bosa Art Co, their focus is on celebrating what makes Tasmania unique—its landscapes, its wildlife, and its deep sense of place.
Collaborating with a brand that shares the same values feels natural. There’s a shared appreciation for detail, for storytelling, and for creating something meaningful rather than mass-produced.
The Inspiration: Tasmania’s Wild Beauty
Living and working in Tasmania means I’m constantly surrounded by inspiration. From rugged coastlines and windswept bushland to delicate native flora and curious wildlife, there’s a richness here that never feels exhausted.
When I design fabrics, I’m not just creating patterns—I’m translating moments. A walk through eucalyptus forests, the texture of bark, the movement of coastal grasses, or the quiet presence of native animals. These elements find their way into my work in subtle and layered ways.
Designing for The Spotted Quoll allowed me to take that inspiration and reimagine it specifically for fabric—where repetition, flow, and rhythm become just as important as the original illustration.
Designing for Fabric
Designing for fabric is a completely different experience to creating standalone artworks or prints. Every detail has to work as part of a larger whole.
I think about:
-
How a pattern will repeat seamlessly
-
How colours interact across a surface
-
How the design feels from a distance and up close
-
How it will live in someone’s home or wardrobe
The goal is always to create something that feels both beautiful and functional—something that people can use every day while still feeling connected to Tasmania.
The Spotted Quoll: More Than Just a Name
The name itself—The Spotted Quoll—is a nod to one of Tasmania’s most fascinating native animals. The spotted-tail quoll is elusive, powerful, and uniquely Australian. It represents the wild, untamed side of this island, and that sense of wildness is something I try to honour in my designs.
There’s a quiet responsibility that comes with referencing Tasmania’s wildlife and landscapes. It’s not just about aesthetics—it’s about respect, awareness, and celebration.
Creating Meaning Through Design
What I love most about this collaboration is the ability to create something that people can take home and use—whether it’s textiles, homewares, or fabric-based products—and feel a connection to Tasmania.
Just like my art prints and cards, these designs are about storytelling. They hold a sense of place, a memory, a feeling. They allow someone—whether they live here or are just visiting—to carry a small piece of Tasmania with them.
A Natural Fit
Working with The Spotted Quoll feels like an extension of everything I already love doing through Bosa Art Co. It’s about slowing down, observing the natural world, and turning that into something tangible.
Tasmania has a way of staying with you. Its colours, its textures, its wildlife—they linger. Being able to design fabrics inspired by this wild island and see them become part of a respected Tasmanian brand is something I’m incredibly proud of.
If you’re drawn to Tasmanian design, nature-inspired fabrics, or Australian-made textiles, this collaboration is a true reflection of what makes this place so special.
It’s Tasmania—told through pattern, colour, and story.
