Designing for Hound Tee’s: A Love Letter to Greyhounds

Some collaborations feel personal from the very beginning—and designing for Hound Tee's was exactly that for me.

Because this one starts at home… with Lucy.

Meet Lucy

Lucy is my rescued greyhound, and like many people who share their lives with these gentle dogs, I completely understand the quiet magic they bring. She’s equal parts sleepy, sensitive, and unexpectedly hilarious.

If you know greyhounds or whippets, you’ll know—they’re not just dogs. They’re soft souls with big personalities, and they deserve to be warm, comfortable, and cared for in every season.

Designing for a brand that creates clothing specifically for them felt incredibly close to my heart.

Why Greyhounds Need Clothing

Unlike many other breeds, greyhounds and whippets have very little body fat and thin coats, which means they really feel the cold. Clothing isn’t just cute—it’s essential.

That’s where Hound Tee’s comes in. Based in Melbourne, they create thoughtfully designed garments that fit the unique shape of sighthounds—long bodies, deep chests, and those beautifully skinny legs.

Their pieces are practical, well-made, and designed with real dogs in mind.

Designing for a Very Specific Shape

This collaboration challenged me in a completely different way. I wasn’t just designing something to look beautiful—I was designing for movement, comfort, and form.

Patterns needed to:

  • Flow naturally across long, narrow bodies

  • Work from every angle as the dog moves

  • Feel balanced without overwhelming the garment

  • Complement the simplicity of the clothing design

Inspired by Everyday Moments

With Lucy as my constant companion, inspiration came easily.

It was in:

  • The curve of her back as she curls into a tight little donut

  • The long stretch of her legs when she finally gets up

  • The softness of her expression when she’s completely at ease

I found myself designing from observation—not just of Tasmania’s landscapes, but of Lucy herself. Her calm energy, her quiet presence, and the simple routines we share.

A Community That Cares

The greyhound and whippet community is something special. There’s a deep understanding of rescue, care, and giving these dogs the life they deserve.

Being part of a brand that supports that community, even in a small way through design, feels meaningful. It’s more than clothing—it’s about care.

Designed with Heart

This collaboration reminded me why I love what I do. Design can be beautiful, but it can also be purposeful. It can support, comfort, and connect.

And when it’s inspired by your own dog—by Lucy, curled up beside me as I work—it becomes something even more personal.
