Here is a list of Art Exhibitions around Tasmania (some within Australia) for emerging new artists to enter. Art exhibitions are a great place to get your name out and wet your feet in the art world. City of Clarence Open Art Exhibition

About: The Clarence Open Art Exhibition is a biennial event held in both the Schoolhouse Gallery and Rosny Barn at Rosny Farm. Open to all Tasmanian artists, Clarence City Council actively promotes the participation of people in the arts and the Open Art Exhibition provides a valuable opportunity for artists to show their work to the public. Clarence City Council invites local artists to exhibit paintings, photography, drawing and print works in this ever popular exhibition with prizes.

 

Hadley’s Art Prize

About: Hobart is an acquisitive Australian landscape prize. Hadley’s Orient Hotel has a long history with art starting with art-loving landlords in the late 1800s. The Hadley’s Art Prize, Hobart contributes to the art community, celebrates excellence in contemporary landscape art, promotes cultural tourism in Tasmania, and restores art to the historic walls of Hadley’s Orient Hotel through a landscape prize like Howard Hadley won in 1895. Judged by a panel of art specialists, the prize is open to Australian artists over the age of eighteen working in two-dimensional media.  

 


Glover Prize

Prize: $75,000

About: It is awarded annually by The John Glover Society Inc. for the work judged the best contemporary landscape painting of Tasmania. The winner receives $75,000 plus a bronze maquette of colonial artist John Glover, designed by Peter Corlett and valued at $5000. The Glover Prize is acquisitive, selected from around 40 works chosen by a panel of eminent judges. All other exhibitied entries are eligible for the (non-acquisitive) People’s Choice Award of $3000, the Children’s Choice Award of $500 and the Hanger’s Choice Award of $500.

Huon Art Awards

About: HAEG runs the annual “Huon Art Awards” in the Cygnet Town Hall, starting on the first Friday of March every year. The Huon Art Awards is an annual judged art competition and exhibition open to all. Young artists (18 and under) are judged separately. There is one judged “Huon Art Award” ($2,250), two acquisitive awards ($1,000), three judged awards for each artwork category, two judged overall “Young Artist” awards ($750 and $250), and one “People’s Choice Award” ($1,000).

  

  

The Incognito Art Show (Australian)

Prize: NIL /  This is a charity Art show that is super fun and engaging!

Entries Close Date: Saturday 14th May. 

About: The Incognito Art Show is Australia’s biggest and most inclusive art show. At the core of what we do is we raise funds to help support Australian artists. Incognito is now open for registration for our 2022 show (check out the front page!). Any artist can register whether amatuer, lapsed, emerging or seasoned professional. The more artists who take part, the bigger the show! Registration closes Saturday 14th May. Once registered, we will send you an Incognito Artist pack by mail. It contains three A5 sized cards for you to produce artwork on (any medium is accepted!). Once completed, return the artworks in the pre-paid return envelopes provided by Friday 27th of May. Once collected, Incognito will exhibit your artwork online at incognitoartshow.com. Your art will then be sold in-person at our Sydney show in mid June (sale day to be confirmed).THE TWIST?  The identity of all artists will be anonymous when the artwork is exhibited online and when it’s sold in-person. Only once purchased will the artist’s identity be revealed on the reverse side of the work. All profits raised will be donated to Studio A, a Sydney based arts company that provides professional development for artists with intellectual disabilities. Women’s Art Prize of Tasmania

About: The women’s Art Prize is the state’s only female art competition. The prize aims to inspire, facilitate, and celebrate the development of professional and emerging woman artists in Tasmania. For 20 years, this prize has shone a spotlight on the creative skills, passions, and vision of women artists of all career stages across this state. The theme and mission of the prize is just as relevant today as it was when Material Girl was launched in 2002. In 2022, as we reached this important milestone, we honoured the past, celebrated the present and looked towards the future.

 

Bay of Fires Art Prize

About: Incorporated into the Bay of Fires Winter Arts Festival. Every year they pick a theme to inspire your work by.  

 

 

The Royal Hobart Show Art Prize

About: Artery presents Tasmania’s premier art competition, Art on Show. This prize offers a notable opportunity to present work in a professional setting and participate in a long-running and well-respected exhibition, with up to $8 000 in prizes offered annually.

Enter up to three works in oil, acrylic, watercolour, gouache, ink, pencil, pastel, charcoal, print media, mixed media, photography, or any other 2D medium. Works will be displayed for sale during the Royal Hobart Show in the Grandstand Hall.

 

The Kingborough Art Prize

About: The Lions Club of Kingborough is curating the eleventh Kingborough Art Prize Exhibition & sale in the Kingborough Community HUB, Goshawk Way Kingston in April 2023, where winning exhibits will be judged by an independent, professional judging panel. The exhibition will have a non-acquisition first prize of $1000.00 for the best work exhibited, and three category prizes, each of $600.00.

Rotary Club Hobart Art Show

Aspire Gallery "Little Features"

About: As well as our two major small works competitions a year - we host a "Little Features" Program year round. Rotating each month, our "Little Feature" wall aims to display a range of small works that all fall under 45 x 45 cm and are priced below $500! Free to showcase (with only 30% commission taken on sales), Artists are invited to submit up to 4 works for consideration by emailing entries@aspiregallery.com.au.In the email, be sure to include: contact name, email and phone number: images of each work; details of each work (including title, price, medium, size and description); and your Instagram or Facebook url. Artists from across Australia are invited to submit work!
